Part-Time Children’s Librarian @ Delmont Public Library

Location: Delmont Public Library, Delmont PA
Hours:  Approximate 14 hours per week (may require more during summer reading program)
Salary: Commensurate based on experience

Overview:

Delmont Public Library, a small, community-focused library, is seeking a dynamic, creative, and enthusiastic Part-Time Children’s Librarian to join our team. This position involves planning and conducting engaging children’s programs, providing excellent customer service, and supporting library services to children and their families. The ideal candidate will have a passion for reading and working with children (birth to teens) along with the ability to inspire young minds. Note this position will be supervised by the library director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and conduct age-appropriate programs and activities for children, including story times, crafts, summer reading program, and educational events.
  • Assist children and caregivers in selecting books, resources, and materials.
  • Maintain a welcoming and safe environment in the children’s section of the library.
  • Provide reference and readers’ advisory services to children and families.
  • Promote library services and events to the community through outreach efforts.
  • Manage and organize children’s materials and resources.
  • Keeps informed on trend in children’s literature and issues affecting children/youth.
  • Assist with circulation duties, including checking in/out materials and managing library accounts.
  • Collaborate with Director and other library staff to create a cohesive, engaging library experience for patrons of all ages.
  • Creates display to enhance the library experience and promote the use of library resources.
  • Assists patrons in using the online catalog and other electronic tools and resources; assists and instructs patrons in using library services, equipment, and facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; degree or coursework in Library Science, Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred
  • PA State Clearances: Pennsylvania State Police, Child Abuse History (PA Department of Human Services), and FBI Fingerprinting (Identigo)
  • Previous experience working with children, ideally in a library or educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of children’s literature and an enthusiasm for reading.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Creativity and a passion for engaging children in educational and entertaining activities.
  • Ability to organize and follow through on programs, services, and projects.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Familiarity with library systems and technology
  • Good oral and written communication
  • Ability to plan and stay on budget.
  • Understanding of publicity/promotion, ability to create flyers, brochures, newsletters, press releases.
